About Trevor Steele
I help people, organizations, and companies communicate with and reach audiences effectively. I moved from politics to public relations, working for organizations based around key ideas. These include think tanks, technology companies, nonprofits, government agencies and individuals with new and important ideas and goals. I have also worked on crisis communications, helping organizations navigate difficult periods with intense media and public scrutiny.
I believe we all work in a transmedia environment, where the traditional boundaries between social, digital, and traditional media have been obliterated. The tools and skills required for effective communication are broader today than ever and require strategic planning to be effective. As such, I am as comfortable writing press releases as tweets, as proficient at using wire services as social media analytics. Specialties:
BioTrevor Steele grew up in Eugene, Oregon and worked extensively in professional politics before moving into public relations and communications. During his time in politics, he worked as a campaign field director, manager, and strategist; as a legislative assistant; and as a lobbyist.
As an experienced public relations and communications professional, Trevor has worked on some of the area’s most pressing issues. During graduate school at the University of Southern California, Trevor developed the social media program for the Milken Institute, an international economic think tank based in Santa Monica, California. The Institute continues to use the systems and methodology Trevor developed. In 2013, after receiving his Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations, Trevor returned to Eugene as a communications strategist at Funk/Levis & Associates. While at Funk/Levis, he served as an assistant public information officer for several government clients, working actively with media to help foster greater understanding of key issues in the community. He has written hundreds of media releases, pitching a wide variety of stories, responded to media inquiries, trained spokespeople, developed messaging, managed social media, and lead strategic communications planning efforts. Following the school shooting at Umpqua Community College, Trevor helped with the post-crisis response, messaging, planning and media relations. My 'Why'Communications, often more than facts, impacts the reality of how we live and what actions we and others take. I saw this first hand working for years running political campaigns and in the Oregon Legislature. Great policies only became law if there was public perception that the legislation was beneficial. Mountains can't be moved unless the community sees and understands the need.
Today, I practice strategic communications and public relations to help clients achieve organizational goals. The way an organization communicates with its publics is fundamental to how the organization will function. I enjoy working with clients to identify the organization's goals and work collaboratively using communications tools to help turn these goals into reality. |
